Flat Plans

With my flat plans I decided to use Franklin gothic demi as my font for the majority of the text on the page as it is quite a plain and a non demographic suggesitve so it will appeal to more of a variety of an audience. The Magazine name and the masthead use the impact font so they are bold and so they stand out more. The masthead is bright and yellow so it stands out. The colour yellow is usually associated with danger giving the indication that my magazine is dangerous and exciting so this will appeal to my target audience. It is at an angle so it looks different and new. I use rhetorical questions to invite the readers in and to make them think this is also my tagline "whats going on in the lewes campus?". The main flash is about my model whos going to freshers and there will be an interview with her where she talks about freshers and this will appeal to my target audience as people will be interested about freshers. My two main sells are the "28 teacher factfiles" where people can learn about the teachers at sussex downs so this will appeal to my demographic and the "what else is going on this year?" which is in the contents which will be interesting for the readers. The important information such as date and issue number are in times new roman so people see that is serious and valuable. The contents page layout is similar to the front page with the same use of yellow, red and black

Evaluation

I am pleased with my overall magazine. The bright yellow and reds show it to be a really edgy youth magazine. The triangles and lines on the front page show it to be straight to the point and I decided to incorparate a lot of writing on the front page to show that even though it is a youth magazine is still contains lots of information. The number 28 which tells you how many fact files we have on the teachers which relates to the overall theme of the piece makes the reader believe that they are getting a lot for their money. I could of put more effort into the overall presentation in the front cover as some things look a bit out of proportion and I may have got a bit over the top with the use of lines. I spoke to some of my target audience which is fellow college students and they were really impressed with my front cover. They really liked the use of colour and the fact that my model's hair and clothes are of similar colour to the rest of the graphology on the cover.

Photographs

1)This is the photo I used. I used it because it is bright, with an interesting background and the model is looking straight at the camera inviting the reader in. I used Rachael because she actually goes to the college here so she would be a perfect option for a magazine about Sussex Downs. I used a straight angle so she is giving the impression that her full attention is on the magazine. Her clothing and her colour are the same as the colour of the magazine adding me of a theme and improving the look of the magazine. The chosen photo will appeal to the target audience as she is a student here so will help to reflect the college better.

2) This is one of the choices I had for my main picture but I did not choose this one. I didn't choose this one as the it is too dark and with less of an exciting background with a plain and boring wall in half the photo. The grin is also a bit too cheesy as I am trying to create a magazine where it is for people aged 16 and over so my demographic is slightly more mature than the model having a really cheesy grin.
